Strange Death of Europe

$13.55
( 0.02288001 BCH )

The internationally bestselling and highly personal account of a continent and culture caught in the act of suicide. Declining birth-rates, mass immigration and cultivated self-distrust and self-hatred have come together to make Europeans unable to argue for themselves and incapable of resisting their own comprehensive change as a society. The Strange Death of Europe is not only an analysis of demographic and political realities, but also an eyewitness account, reporting from across the entire continent, from the places where migrants land to the places they end up, from the people who appear to welcome them to the places which cannot accept them. Told from this first-hand perspective, and backed with impressive research and evidence, the book addresses the disappointing failure of multiculturalism, Angela Merkel's U-turn on migration, the lack of repatriation and the Western fixation on guilt. Murray travels to Berlin, Paris, Scandinavia, Lampedusa and Greece to uncover the malaise at the very heart of the European culture, and to hear the stories of those who have arrived in Europe from far away. He ends with two visions of Europe – one hopeful, one pessimistic – which paint a picture of Europe in crisis and offer a choice as to what, if anything, we can do next.

Private Matters: In Defense Of The Personal Life

$23.69
( 0.04000203 BCH )

In this eloquent and reflective book, Janna Malamud Smith traces a modern history of privacy, revealing how our inner and outer lives are nurtured by this fragile virtue.Today we enjoy more privacy than ever before, yet the encroachment of the media, computer data gathering, and electronic surveillance in our lives undermines our sense that we have any privacy at all. Smith argues that having a say in when and how we watch one another is key to ongoing debates about freedom. Our ideal of individual liberty—a person who is free to make choices about her own life—is not possible without the protection of privacy.Yet privacy can be used for the wrong reasons. The same condition that sustains intimacy, creativity, and freedom can also be invoked as an abusive kind of secrecy. to explore this paradox Smith looks at privacy refracted through various prisms: the bedroom, the psychiatrist's couch, the biographer's quest for information, the presidency and presidential families, the news media, women and their bodies. We see the supple quality of privacy as we look at its role in everyday life; we see how essential it is to our capacity to love and create and think—to our humanity.Combining the emotional sensitivity of a psychotherapist with the insights of a literary writer, Janna Malamud Smith offers a compelling portrait of one of the most precious aspects of life. Her book shows us that, indeed, privacy matters.

Advanced Technologies for Humanity

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES FOR HUMANITY is our ninth textbook in a series covering the world of UASs / CUAS / UUVs / Space. In this book, we change our perspective from advanced weapons and intelligence (potentially harmful to humanity) to exploring the use of advanced technologies to benefit society. The authors chose vital technologies that we envision can be used to help humanity survive or turn into less threatening outcomes for society. Chapter One introduces Wargaming and Artificial intelligence. In it, we understand how OODA decision loops can be used for plans and societal decisions. Chapter two addresses Mobility. It is a deep look into the devices that control our daily lives. It presents a holistic view of connectivity and the changes that need to be made. Chapter three discusses the Metaverse and the risks that society is taking. Chapter four brings us back to basics. It teaches how to write in plain language and research important information. It brings a slew of support links to the table. Chapter five shows us the plan and promise of IoT. Everything is connected. Chapter six focuses on advanced robotics and how it is transforming humanity. What autonomous systems will we have to contend with in the future? Chapter seven is a powerful look into the intersection of biotechnology and AI. It is a combination of warning and future possibilities. Chapter eight is crucial to leveraging advanced technologies to enhance food production. Chapter nine presents a systems-dynamic view of humanitarian efforts. It introduces a balanced humanitarian technology security system. Chapter ten is a complex review of quantum computing limits, enhancements, applications, and core principles. It is not for the faint of heart. Chapter eleven asks the question: has social media worn out its welcome? It reveals the laws that protect us and censor us. It is a needed reality check. The ending chapter entitled Feed The Planet is a story to be heard. It envisions organizing hanging gardens in Africa that can produce food for millions of families. It is a beautiful vision that sums up our goals.

The Psychology of Money: Timeless lessons on wealth, greed, and happiness

$10.99
( 0.01855729 BCH )

**OVER 8 MILLION COPIES SOLD AROUND THE WORLD… The Psychology of Money is the original bestselling classic from the author of the new book, Same as Ever.** Doing well with money isn’t necessarily about what you know. It’s about how you behave. And behavior is hard to teach, even to really smart people. Money―investing, personal finance, and business decisions―is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the different ways people think about money and teaches you how to make better sense of one of life’s most important topics.

Economy, Society, and History

$11.95
( 0.02017831 BCH )

In June 2004, Professor Hans-Hermann Hoppe visited the Mises Institute to deliver an ambitious series of lectures titled Economy, Society, and History. What followed was an intellectual tour de force few academics would even attempt. Over ten lectures, one each morning and afternoon for a week, Dr. Hoppe presented nothing short of a sweeping historical narrative and vision for a society rooted in markets and property. Delivered only from notes, to an audience of academics and intellectuals, the lectures showed astonishing depth and breadth. Even the most jaded scholars in the room were blown away by the erudition and scholarship of Hoppe’s presentation. The result brought together the core of Hoppe’s lifetime of theoretical work in one vital and cohesive series. Here we find provocative themes developed by Hoppe in the 1980s and 90s, particularly in his essays found in A Theory of Socialism and Capitalism and The Economics and Ethics of Private Property. We also find his devastating critique of democracy, made famous in his seminal book Democracy, the God that Failed. We have taken the recordings, edited them, and have now published them in a convenient book for those not lucky enough to have heard these lectures. This is entirely “new” material for the vast majority of Hoppe fans. This book is a tremendous addition to Hoppe’s body of work and a hugely important contribution to the “big picture” outlook for the West. Hoppe’s work is more important today than ever, given the penchant of modern bureaucratic states to war, intervene, tax, regulate, debase, and generally plunder the engines of peace and civilization.

Enough Already: Time to End the War on Terrorism

$17.34
( 0.02927966 BCH )

“If you only read one book this year on America’s unending ‘War on Terror,’ it should be this persuasive and devastatingly damning account of how the United States created the original al Qaeda terrorism threat by its own actions and then increased that threat by orders of magnitude by its wanton killings in one country after another in the name of ‘counter-terrorism.’ Once I started reading it, I couldn’t stop!” — Daniel Ellsberg, Pentagon Papers whistleblower and author of The Doomsday Machine: Confessions of a Nuclear War Planner

1638: The Sovereign States (36) (Ring of Fire)

$19.76
( 0.03336598 BCH )

The fate of Russia hangs in the balance as up-timers and down-timers battle for freedom! The United Sovereign States of Russia struggles to set in place the traditions and legal precedents that will let it turn into a constitutional monarchy with freedom and opportunity for all its citizens. At the same time, they’re trying to balance the power of the states and the federal government. And the USSR is fighting a civil war with Muscovite Russia, defending the new state of Kazakh from invasion by the Zunghars, building a tech base and an economy that will allow its money to be accepted in western Europe, establishing a more solid claim to Siberia, and, in general, keeping the wheels of civilization from coming off and dumping Russia back into the Time of Troubles. Or, possibly even worse, reinstalling the sort of repressive oligarchy that they just got rid of.

Liberty or Lockdown

$20
( 0.03377123 BCH )

The second edition of this book appears two years after the first. I deliberately left the body of the book unchanged other than add a new introduction. if only to underscore the point: there were plenty of warnings! The significance of the timing of the first edition book is obvious to anyone who has lived through our strange times: September 2020. That was six months following the lockdown of most of the world during which places where people might “congregate” were shut by governments. The reason was to avoid, mitigate, eliminate maybe, or otherwise diminish the disease impact of the virus that caused Covid. This was before the vaccine came out, before the Great Barrington Declaration, and before data on excess deaths the world over showed vast carnage from these policy decisions. The second edition appears two years later. The topic put me to work trying to understand the thinking, a process which took me back through the history of pandemics, the relationship between infectious disease and freedom, and the origin of lockdown ideology in 2005. The times during which it was written were beyond strange. People went full medieval in every way in which that term can be understood. There was public flogging in the form of masking and the abolition of fun, feudalistic segregation and disease shaming, the practical end of most medical care unless it was for Covid, the scapegoating of non-compliers, and a turn to other pre-modern forms. All of this became worse once the non-sterilizing vaccines appeared on the market that many if not most people were forced to accept or lose their jobs. Writing now September 2022, I cannot even imagine going through the pain of putting this research together again. I’m very pleased it was done then because now this book survives as a marker that there was dissent, if nothing else. This was a period of time – still is today – when vast numbers of people feel betrayed by technology, media, politicians, and even their one-time intellectual heroes. It is a time of grave destruction with still-broken supply chains, roaring inflation, mass cultural demoralization, labor market confusions, and terrible uncertainty about the future. Let us hope, too, that it is a period of rebuilding, however quietly it is taking place. Starting the Brownstone Institute is part of that for me. So many others have joined. Today we published articles from all over the world since so many around the world have shared in this suffering. ~ Jeffrey Tucker, September 2022
